This National Science Week, high school students across Victoria are being invited to dive deeper into the fascinating world of water, with the launch of a brand-new online learning portal.

The School Water Education Resources portal is designed to get students, teachers and families thinking, talking and learning about one of our most precious resources.

It’s packed with engaging content that brings water to life — from how it’s managed, to who works with it, and why it matters more than ever in a changing climate.

The portal was developed in partnership between the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action and the Geography Teachers’ Association of Victoria.

It offers a fresh way to explore key topics like climate change, drought, desalination, the water grid, agriculture, recycled water, water-sensitive urban design and working with Traditional Owners.

One of the standout features is a series of 16 brand-new workplace interviews with real people working in the water sector.

These videos offer a behind-the-scenes look at careers in water, showcasing not only the variety of roles available, but the passion and purpose that drives those who work to protect and manage our state’s water every day.

Whether students are writing an assignment or exploring future career pathways, this portal offers a unique chance to hear directly from the people shaping Victoria’s water future.

More resources are already in the pipeline, with new content planned for release in 2026.
