Independent audit of Water Recovery – Macalister Irrigation District 2030 (MID2030) Phase 1A modernisation program

Southern Rural Water’s Macalister Irrigation District 2030 (MID2030) Phase 1A project was completed in 2017 and has reduced water loss in the area through irrigation modernisation works.

A 2023 audit, conducted by independent auditor Stantec, verified that a cumulative total of 13,494 megalitres (ML) long-term water recovery has been achieved for MID2030 Phase 1A. This includes 6,795 ML of long-term water recovery from MID2030 Phase 1A that was previously audited and converted to water shares prior to 2018.

The auditor was satisfied that Southern Rural Water had completed the works claimed in the calculations and attests that 13,494 ML of long-term water recovery has been accurately calculated in accordance with the Water Savings Protocol.

A 2025 amendment was made to the audit report to update the water volume required to mitigate the impact to the Heart Morass mitigation water site from modernisation works. The audit report confirmed that the MID2030 Project Phase 1A has recovered sufficient water to meet the required mitigation water volumes.

Further upgrades to the Macalister Irrigation District are ongoing under Phase 1B and Phase 2.
