Victorian Water Register website temporarily offline
We are aware of a cyber vulnerability impacting PHP, which provides language programming services for a broad range of websites and programs, including the Victorian Water Register website.
We are working closely with relevant Commonwealth and Victorian Government agencies, including the Australian Cyber Security Centre, which is investigating and coordinating a national response to this vulnerability.
Based on Department of Government Services recommendations, the site (Waterregister.vic.gov.au) has been taken offline for critical security updates. The underlying Water Register itself remains operational and there is no evidence of any compromise.
My Water and the Broker Portal remain available and can be accessed through mywater.waterregister.vic.gov.au.
For the following services please note:
- For a Copy of Record or blank application forms, email waterregister.support@deeca.vic.gov.au.
- To submit an application or check the status of an existing application, please contact your water corporation directly.
- Water market prices and trade limits can still be accessed through the Water Market Watch app. Water Market Watch is free to download from the Apple App store and Google Play store.
If you require information that is not available through the alternative services listed above, please contact us at waterregister.support@deeca.vic.gov.au.
We continue to work with our government partners to monitor the situation and better understand the extent of any impacts.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
What does the register do?
The Victorian Water Register provides public information online about water entitlements and their ownership. It tracks the prices and volumes traded on the water market.
Since its introduction in 2007, the register has been an essential part of Victoria’s entitlements framework. It provides a central point of information and gives users the confidence that our water markets are operating as they should.
A record of entitlements lets us produce crucial information. We maintain these records with integrity and proper water accounting.
The register also includes information about Victorian water accounts.
These water accounts track the use of water to its end use and summarise the levels of annual availability of:
- water
- rainfall
- streamflow
- storage.
How is it used?
Delivery of the register is shared between a range of organisations. They include:
- the Water and Catchments Group in the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA)
- the independent Victorian Water Registrar
- rural water corporations.
The Victorian Water Register is acknowledged as the national leader in reforming the registration and trade of water entitlements.
