Renewable fuels for zero emissions transport
Barwon Water are trialling a hydrogen powered prime mover to transport of biosolids from wastewater treatment. The truck refuels at Viva Energy's Energy Hub in Geelong, which uses recycled water to create hydrogen.
The trial will help determine the potential emissions and cost benefits of using renewable fuels for water sector transport needs.
Turning towards low-carbon materials
Yarra Valley Water has introduced a carbon-in-construction tool and is collaborating with suppliers to boost the use of recycled, reprocessed, and lower-carbon materials in construction and maintenance projects.
Low carbon cement has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from construction by up to 50%, helping to reduce scope 3 emissions.
Treatment plant upgrade to reduce emissions and waste
North East Water is upgrading the Wodonga wastewater treatment plant to increase its capacity and reduce emissions.
Once complete, the plant will be part of a resource recovery hub generating solar power, capturing methane and integrating with a hydrogen electrolyser that will use wastewater to create renewable hydrogen.
