Years 7 and 10 geography classes across the state will now benefit from updated water education school resources, delivered through a partnership between the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) and the Geography Teachers’ Association of Victoria (GTAV).
These new and improved resources are aligned to the new geography curriculum 2.0 and are designed to promote a greater understanding of water for students, teachers and families. Additionally, they will assist in building student’s confidence to think critically about how we can all help to manage water in Victoria as well as the biases that many might experience in areas such as recycled water and data analysis.
The geography workbooks utilise DEECA’s deep well of expertise to inform and educate, covering a broad cross-section of topics including the Victorian Water Accounts, urban water security, climate change, desalination and more. Additionally, previous published workplace interviews available on the Water and Catchments Group website continue to shine a light on the many different career pathways that exist within the water sector for urban and regional Victorians.
Web resources remain available online for all to access across a variety of subjects alongside a new interactive map. This map takes many of the great videos and educational content produced by DEECA and our water agency partners, and allows it to be explored by younger audiences in an engaging way in one location.
The updated workbooks, written especially by classroom teachers with input from DEECA subject matter experts, will be available through the GTAV for teachers to access, download and incorporate into their lesson plans.
This collaboration had previously produced classroom workbooks that received a high commendation from the Australian Geography Teachers’ Association.
