The Latrobe Valley community is being encouraged to have their say on AGL’s application for a new bulk water entitlement to allow them to access surface water for rehabilitation of its Loy Yang coal mine.
In 2024, the Minister for Water invited community feedback on applications to amend existing water entitlements and to grant a new one for mine rehabilitation in the Latrobe Valley.
The Loy Yang power generators currently have access to water to run their own power stations, but the entitlements that provide this water don’t allow it to be used for mine rehabilitation.
Further public submissions regarding AGL’s application are now being sought. This consultation focuses on ensuring the community can have a say on what should be considered when determining if a price for water access should be imposed as a condition on a new bulk entitlement if it is granted.
Submissions and survey responses are open until 11:59 pm 22 July 2025.
The Minister for Water will consider submissions when deciding on AGL’s application.
