Water sources
South East Water purchases water that has been harvested, stored and treated by the wholesaler, Melbourne Water. A large proportion of this water comes from protected or uninhabited mountain ash forests in the Yarra Ranges east of Melbourne, where more than 157,000 hectares have been reserved for the primary purpose of harvesting water. This water is then stored in various covered storages, including the Thomson, Upper Yarra, Silvan and Cardinia reservoirs.
Further information on water storage and treatment can be found in South East Water’s latest Annual Water Quality Report.
