On 20 December 2019, the Minister for Water announced a review of the regulated Broken system to improve the operations of the system now and into the future for the benefit of all entitlement holders.
The review is being led by a Project Steering Group (PSG) which will provide the Minister for Water with proposals for the future management of the Broken system.
The PSG comprises of representative entitlement holders from across the Broken system as well as the Goulburn-Broken Catchment Management Authority as waterway manager and Goulburn-Murray Water as storage manager. An independent facilitator and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) are providing ongoing support to the group.
The PSG have prepared a draft Broken Review Summary Report that consists of draft proposals following a technical review of the Broken River system and the outcomes from the survey of entitlement holders conducted from September to November 2021.
Consultation is now underway on the draft report to ensure the community can have their say on the draft proposals before the PSG finalise their report for submission to the Minister for Water.
