This initiative provides part of Victoria's annual contribution towards Joint Programs delivered on behalf of the Basin Governments by the Murray-Darling Basin Authority. As a signatory to the Murray Darling Basin Agreement 2008, Victoria is required to make an annual contribution to the operating costs of the Murray Darling Basin Authority (MDBA). These contributions are made by the Department under a "Payment on Behalf of the State" (POBOS) arrangement.

2014-15 expenditure: $16.712 m
2015-16 expenditure: $11.800 m
Payments of $4.2 m in 2013-14,$16.7 m in 2014-15 and $11.8 m in 2015-16 were made through this initiative to the Murray-Darling Basin Authority, forming part of Victoria's contribution towards the Authority's annual operating costs incurred in delivering the suite of joint programs and services authorised by Basin Governments through the Murray-Darling Basin Ministerial Council.The Murray-Darling Basin Authority publishes annual reports setting out its progress in detail, which can be accessed on the MDBA website.
