We continue to partner with the Mallee Catchment Management Authority (CMA), Agriculture Victoria and community to reduce salinity, improve water use efficiency, reduce nutrient impacts from drainage water and reduce offsites impact on vegetation and biodiversity in the Mallee.
We are delivering on Water for Victoria Action 4.4: Reduce barriers to change and support communities in irrigation districts through the Mallee Irrigation Incentive Program. The program is funded through the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning’s Sustainable Irrigation Program and irrigator salinity offset charges administered by the Mallee CMA.
On 1 October, landholder Owen Lloyd showed how the program had improved irrigation practices on his Mildura dried fruit farm. Mr Lloyd received a 50% incentive to upgrade his irrigation scheduling equipment.
