Victoria’s 19 water corporations have committed to reducing emissions by 42% by 2025 and becoming carbon neutral by 2050.
Delivering effective and reliable water services for Victorians is energy and emissions intensive. In fact, Victoria’s water sector emits more emissions than any other Victorian government institution. The water sector has a responsibility to reduce its emissions. This is because of two important reasons:
- The water sector emits large amount of greenhouse emissions
- The water sector is vulnerable to the impacts of climate change
