Waterwatch Victoria Program
Waterwatch Victoria is a successful community engagement program connecting local communities with river health and sustainable water issues and management.
Waterwatch coordinators work in some catchment management regions in Victoria to deliver education and awareness raising activities for schools and community groups.
The Waterwatch program has developed a range of educational resources to support educators and learners from a range of backgrounds, from educators in the formal education system, or a community group wanting to find out more about rivers.
In some catchment management regions, Waterwatch provides material to introduce and guide learners through the key social, environmental and economic issues facing our catchments, and in particular river systems.
In some catchment management regions, Waterwatch Victoria Coordinators provide professional development opportunities for teachers, appropriate resources, and how these can be integrated into the school program through the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS). Some regional Waterwatch programs have developed structured Education programs and/or resources to meet the needs of regional schools.
