Schools
Learning about water can enrich and enhance school curriculums. It is a topic that can be integrated across all learning areas, from primary school to VCE.
There are many ways to incorporate water and water conservation into education programs and many existing programs that you can tap into for water education. Find out about some of them by following the links below.
Water - Learn it! Live it! (Water - LiLi)
Through the Water - Learn it! Live it! program, schools understand how we use water and how to use if more efficiently.
Water - LiLi! is aligned with and promoted by this Victorian implementation of the Commonwealth’s Australian Sustainable Schools Initiative (AuSSI), a partnership of the Australian Government and the states and territories that supports schools and their communities to become sustainable. ResourceSmart AuSSI, Vic is the key framework for all Victorian schools, and community providers that support schools, to incorporate sustainability in core school programs. Since 2003, the Victorian pilot (AuSSI, Vic), together with the NSW pilot, formed the basis for the national roll-out of AuSSI.
Sustainability Victoria (SV), The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD), the Office of Water and DSE work in partnership, together with other community based deliverers, such as Centre for Education and Research in Environmental Strategies (CERES) and the Victorian Association of Environmental Education (VAEE), to support the uptake of ResourceSmart AuSSI, Vic.
ResourceSmart Australian Sustainable Schools Initiative
ResourceSmart AuSSI Vic provides a holistic approach to sustainability. It integrates educational, environmental, social and economic outcomes so that schools do not see each area in isolation but as components of the bigger picture of sustainability.
Schools Water Efficiency Program (SWEP) assists Victorian schools to undertake a water audit, retrofit services and save reticulated water supplies.Waterwatch Victoria
Through Waterwatch Victoria schools, community groups and individuals are supported and encouraged to become actively involved in local waterway monitoring and on-ground action.
