Strategic Direction
The recent 13-year drought in Victoria, growing recognition of the environment's water requirements and predictions of future climate variability are driving significant change in irrigation.
The Victorian Government is responding to these challenges with infrastructure investment to improve the efficiency of water delivery systems and reduce the losses from irrigation systems.
The Sustainable Irrigation Program (and its predecessors) has demonstrated the strong benefits of an integrated approach to sustainable irrigation where the community works with government agencies to develop a coordinated farm and infrastructure program.
