Program Achievements
The Sustainable Irrigation Program, along with other natural resource management programs, is addressing the legacy of over 100 years of development in Victoria.
This involves a long-term commitment by the community and governments to agreed actions directed by land and water management plans prepared by CMAs, government agencies and communities across regional Victoria.
These plans further extend the integrated approach pioneered by the salinity management plans to acheive:
- Lower salinity, nutrient and biodiversity side-effects of irrigation
- Increased farm water use efficiency and water savings for both environmental and productive benefits
- A confident, profitable, resilient and adaptable irrigation sector that generates wealth for regional communities and Victoria.
