December 2011
With the completion of hydrotesting of the pipeline in December, crews began the process of energising, or making ‘live’ , the power cable which runs from Cranbourne Terminal Station to the plant site. This process is occurring in stages and is expected to continue for several weeks.
Landowners in the area of the easement are being kept informed of upcoming works through mailbox drops, door knocks as well as the latest edition of AquaSure’s Community Update, which can be found here. DSE has written to all landowners and/or their solicitors regarding energisation, contacting Dial Before you Dig and use of the power and pipeline easement.
As part of the project’s commissioning process, crews will soon begin flooding the marine structures and underground tunnels which bring seawater to the seawater lift pump station.
Small valves will be opened on the four marine structures, allowing the seawater to slowly flow into the tunnels. This is a very controlled process with the flow rate being safe for marine life, with each tunnel taking approximately 24 hours to fill.
