Benefits
While the key benefit of the Victorian Desalination Project is a rainfall independent water supply, there are a number of local and state-wide social and economic benefits that flow from a large construction project and guaranteed water supply.
Water security is a critical building block for Victoria’s continuing prosperity. It is vital for food production, industry, agriculture, recreation, tourism and the environment.
Water security through a rainfall independent supply as part of a diversified Water Plan helps to ensure Victoria’s general economic security. Security of water supply is a foundational benefit to the broader economy.
