Urban Water Restrictions - December 2006
A number of new or increased urban water restrictions took effect during November. Key changes included:
- Stage 1 restrictions were imposed for all the towns serviced by Lower Murray Water, and for towns supplied by Coliban on the Goulburn and Murray systems.
- Stage 2 restrictions were imposed in the East Gippsland region for all towns on the Mitchell River system, Omeo System and Swifts Creek.
- Restrictions were increased to Stage 3 for Broadford, Kilmore, Wandong, and Heathcote Junction.
- Stage 4 restrictions were imposed for Hamilton, Cavendish, Dunkeld and Tarrington, and for all towns in the Greater Geelong region.
The total number of towns subject to water restrictions as at 31 December 2006 was 438. One hundred and one towns are currently on Stage 1, 119 on Stage 2, 29 on Stage 3, and 189 on Stage 4 restrictions.
New restrictions and increases in the severity of existing restrictions have already been flagged for January.
