Streamflows - November 2006
Despite generally higher rainfall in November than in October, the flow situation has not improved. The highest rainfalls for the month (50-100 mm) were recorded in the Northeast, Alpine and Gippsland regions. The Otway, Central and Lower Northeast recorded 25–50 mm for the month, and South Mallee, South Wimmera and some parts of the Lower and Upper North received 10 -25 mm. The rest of the State fell in the 5–10 mm range.
At the end of November, 93% of the State had streamflows that were below 10% of the long-term average flow for the month. Flows recorded at a third of the gauged stations are the minimum ever recorded during November. Half of the stations recorded flows which translate to 0–1% of the November long-term average.(see map, graphs and table)
As in previous months, the only stations to record flows above 10% of the long-term November average were on the Snowy River downstream of Basin Ck, and on the Yarra River at Milgrove. However, these flows are maintained by environmental flow releases from major storages of Upper Yarra Reservoir and the Snowy Mountains Hydro Electric Scheme.
