Urban Water Restrictions - September 2006
A number of new or increased urban restrictions took effect during September and from 1 October 2006.
Key changes included:
- Barwon Water increased restrictions to Stage 2 for towns in the Greater Geelong and Bellarine Peninsula areas;
- Stage 1 water restrictions were introduced in all the towns in the area serviced by Westernport Water;
- Coliban Water increased restrictions to Stage 2 for towns supplied from the Loddon system, and to Stage 4 for towns supplied by the Wimmera system;
- Grampians Wimmera Mallee Water increased restrictions to full Stage 4 (of a new 4 stage policy) for 38 towns supplied from the Grampians headworks system or the Waranga channel system.
- Stage 1 restrictions for the new policy were also introduced for 4 towns supplied by GWMW, two of which were not previously on restrictions.
The total number of towns subject to water restrictions as at 1 October 2006 was 220 (compared with 181 at the same time in 2005 and 198 at the end of September 2004). Fifty-three towns are currently on Stage 1, 65 on Stage 2, 26 on Stage 3, and 76 on Stage 4 restrictions.
Rainfalls during the rest of spring will be critical in determining whether new or increased levels of restrictions are required.
