Streamflows - March 2008
Despite lower rainfall totals than February, the streamflow situation across the state did not worsen. At the end of the month, just under two-thirds of streams across the state were exhibiting flows less than 10% of the long-term average for March. Zero flow conditions were recorded at 9 of the 28 representative gauging stations, located throughout central and north western Victoria (compared to 11 gauging stations in February).
In contrast, streams in the high Alpine region were recording flows in excess of the long-term average for March. In the southern Wimmera district, the Wimmera River was recording flows at 72% of the long-term average.
The current flow is equal to or lower than the average flow recorded in the 1982/83 drought at 22 gauging stations located in central, western and northern Victoria.
