Rainfall - March 2008
March rainfall totals were generally below average across the state.
By the end of March, parts of the Northeast, Central and Western districts had received between 60% and 100% of the long-term average rainfall for March. Large regions of the Wimmera and Northern Country districts also recorded monthly rainfall totals up to 80% of the March average. The North Central district received between 40% and 60%, and the Gippsland districts received up to 40%. A large part of the Mallee district recorded less than 20% of the long-term average rainfall for March.
The highest monthly total of 113.4 mm was recorded at Weeaproinah in the Otways region of southwest Victoria. The lowest monthly total of 0.4 mm was recorded at Walpeup in northwest Victoria.
Temperatures were above average across the state during March. Maximum temperatures in March were between 0 and 5°C above average, whilst minimum temperatures were between 0 and 3°C higher than normal. The hottest day during March was recorded at Avalon Airport where the temperature reached 42°C. A total of 17 sites experienced their highest March temperature on record.
The average maximum temperature was 27.1°C. This is 3.3°C higher than the long-term March average.
