Streamflows - October 2007
Continuing warm and dry conditions resulted in a further decline in Victoria’s rivers and streams during October.
At the end of the month, 20 out of the 28 representative stations were recording flows of less than 10% of the long-term average for October (compared to 18 for September). As can be seen on the Streamflow Status map, these are located across most of northern, western and central Victoria and represent over three-quarters of the State. (see map, graphs, and table)
The remaining eight stations, located in Gippsland and Alpine regions, are recording between 10-27% of the long-term October average. At 27%, the Snowy River downstream of Basin Creek was recording the highest flows as a percentage of the long-term average.
At the end of October, flows at 19 representative stations were equal to or lower than those experienced during the 1982/83 drought. However, 23 stations were exhibiting flows above the minimum flows recorded for October. The remaining 5 stations were experiencing zero flow conditions. These stations were concentrated in central and northwest Victoria.
