Storage Levels - October 2007

Volumes in the major storages throughout the State decreased by 0.2% in October. Victoria’s share of the volume in major storages in the State was at 26.7% of capacity, compared with 26.5% at the same time last year.

Melbourne Water's storages increased by 0.1% in October to finish the month at 39.8% of capacity (3.6% lower than at the same time last year). Rural Water Corporation storages decreased by 0.2% to finish the month at 24.3% of capacity (0.1% higher than at the same time last year). 

Volumes in the major storages throughout the State declined in all but the Upper Murray, Goulburn and Latrobe basins. This is due to a combination of the running of irrigation channels and modest inflows. Storages in the Ovens Basin remain full.

On 31 October, storages in the Glenelg-Wimmera Basin had dropped to 5.7% of capacity compared with 5.7% at the same time last year; Lake Eildon was at 23.7% of capacity compared with 17.2% at the same time last year; and Rosslynne Reservoir was at 4.9% of capacity compared with 6.0% at the same time last year. The Murray Basin is holding 23.2%, which is 8.7% lower than at the same time last year.
