Rosters and restrictions on diversions from unregulated streams
At the end of December, diversions from a total of 133 streams and lakes across the State were subject to some form of restriction. This is significantly less than at the same time last year when 185 streams were on restriction.
In northern Victoria, continuing flows in the Ovens catchment allowed Goulburn-Murray Water to lift restrictions in the unregulated Ovens River, downstream of Lake Buffalo tributaries. In contrast irrigation bans were placed on four streams in the Kiewa catchment and one stream in the King catchment as flows remained well below long-term averages during December. Irrigation or winterfill bans remain in force in all unregulated streams within the Loddon catchment, with the exception of Bullock Creek (Upper).
Bans on diversions from all unregulated streams in the Grampians Wimmera Mallee Water region remained in force.
In southern Victoria, the rain event late in the month increased flows in most of Melbourne Water’s streams. This resulted in the removal of irrigation bans from Diamond Creek, Don River, Yarra River, Little Yarra River, Moonee Ponds Creek and Woori Yallock Creek. By the end of the month streamflows had subsided and a return some form of ban is likely in January for most of these streams.
Southern Rural Water introduced irrigation bans for Moorabool River and Boundary Creek during December. Both are located in its Western region.
