Groundwater Levels - April 2007

Note: Last updated end of February 2007. This Groundwater Report is updated every 3 months. The next groundwater update will be provided at end of May 2007.

Levels were below average and falling for most of the key groundwater management areas in the State including Campaspe Deep Lead, Condah, Denison, Deutgam, Glenelg, Katunga, Kialla, Mid Goulburn, Mid Loddon, Murmungee, Nepean, Neuarpur, Nullawarre, Sale, Shepparton, Spring Hill, Upper Loddon, Wa De Lock, Wandin Yallock, Warrion, Wy Yung, Yangery, and Yarram.

Levels were at historic average levels at Bungaree and Telopea Downs. Levels are stable at Murrayville.

Caps on groundwater extraction are set by either managing to water levels or setting maximum volumes that can be extracted. Southern Rural Water is closely monitoring groundwater levels trends at Deutgam, Sale and Nepean in regard to the potential risk of seawater intrusion.
