Urban Water Restrictions - May 2007
There were a number changes to urban water restrictions during May. Key changes included:
- North East Water (NEW) reduced restrictions at Corryong and Cudgewa from Stage 3 to Stage 2; Goulburn Valley Water (GVW) reduced restrictions to Stage 3 for Meerijig, Sawmill Settlement, Mansfield and Woods Point; and East Gippsland Water reduced restrictions at Omeo and Swifts Creek from Stage 4 to Stage 2.
- GVW increased restrictions from Stage 1 to Stage 2 (or Stage 4) from 1 May for towns in Goulburn and Murray irrigation districts, as did NEW and Grampians Wimmera Mallee Water. GVW also increased restrictions at Pyalong to Stage 2.
- Central Highlands Water increased restrictions from Stage 3 to Stage 4 for Amphitheatre and imposed Stage 1 restrictions for Avoca.
- Barwon Water imposed Stage 2 restrictions from 19 May for Aireys Inlet and Fairhaven.
The total number of towns subject to water restrictions as at 31 May 2007 was 468. Twenty-nine towns were on Stage 1, 100 on Stage 2, 69 on Stage 3, 18 on Stage 3a and 252 on Stage 4 restrictions. Some increases in the severity of existing restrictions are flagged for June.
