Streamflows - June 2007

Streamflows at the end of June reflected the variable rainfalls across the State.

Flows continued at levels of less than 10% of the long-term average in June in the Mallee, South Gippsland and Central and North Central Victoria. (see map, graphs, and table)

In contrast, the Macalister, Latrobe and Mitchell River catchments in Victoria’s southeast experienced flood conditions at the end of the month, recording flows as high as 900% of the long-term June average. Victoria’s southwest coast and the northeast experienced streamflows up to the long-term average.

By the end of the month, 8 out of the 28 representative stations recorded flows below 10% of the long-term average. Of these, two stations recorded no flow conditions, compared with 5 in May. In contrast, eight stations recorded flows exceeding 100% of the long-term average for June.

At the end of June, flow at 12 representative stations was still lower than flows during the 1982/83 drought. However, only two stations had flows lower than the minimum recorded in June.

The following are graphs for the 28 streamflow guaging stations, showing long-term average daily streamflow, recorded minimum streamflow, streamflow in the 1982/83 drought and current daily streamflow.
