Streamflows - July 2007
Average to above average rainfall during July saw an improvement in stream levels across the State.
However, out of the 28 Victorian representative stations, 5 continued at levels of less than 10% of the long-term average for July. These stations are located across the Mallee, Central, and North Central Victoria. Nevertheless, none of these stations experienced zero flows (compared with 2 in June). (see map, graphs, and table)
In contrast, the Genoa River in East Gippsland and Mitchell River in West Gippsland, are experiencing current flows higher than the long-term average.
Eleven stations throughout Western, lower Northeast and lower West Gippsland experienced flows between 10 and 20% of the long-term average. The remaining 12 stations, covering the Otways, Great Dividing Range and Gippsland experienced flows between 20 and 100% of the long-term average.
At the end of July, flows at only one representative station were lower than those experienced during the 1982/83 drought. Moreover, flows at all stations were higher than the minimum flows recorded in July.
