Storage Levels - August 2007

Volumes in the major storages throughout the State increased by 3.1% in August. Victoria’s share of the volume in major storages throughout the State was at 26.0% of capacity, compared with 32.9% at the same time last year.

Melbourne Water's storages increased by 2.9% in August 2007 to finish the month at 38.6% of capacity (8.2% lower than at the same time last year). Rural Water Authority storages increased by 3.2% to finish the month at 23.7% of capacity (6.6% lower than at the same time last year). 

Storage volumes increased in all of Victoria’s major basins during the month, however inflows to storages have dropped off following the dry conditions. Storages in the Ovens Basin remain full, as does Lake Moondarra, which continues to spill. Southern Rural Water is holding Lake Glenmaggie just below full capacity to mitigate potential flooding.

On 31 August, storages in the Glenelg-Wimmera Basin were at 9.4% of capacity compared with 6.8% at the same time last year; Lake Eildon was at 21.8% of capacity compared with 22.6% at the same time last year; and Rosslynne Reservoir was at 5.1% of capacity compared with 6.9% at the same time last year. The Murray Basin is holding 21.5%, which is 20.5% lower than at the same time last year.
