Streamflows - April 2008
As a result of low rainfall the streamflow situation across the state worsened during April.
At the end of the month, streamflows were below average across most of the state, except for the southwest coast and Alpine regions in the northeast. Flows below 10% of the long-term average for April were recorded at 15 of the 28 representative stations in central, north western and far east Victoria.
The Merri River in western Victoria experienced the highest flows for the month, recording 85% of the long-term average for April. Streams in the high Alpine region recorded flows between 60 to 70% of the long-term average for April.
At 23 of the 28 representative stations, streamflows were equal to or lower than the average flow recorded in the 1982/83 drought.
