Rainfall - April 2008

April rainfall totals were generally below average across the state.

By the end of the month, most of the state had only received 20% to 40% of the long-term average rainfall for April. Large regions of the Western, Gippsland and Northeast districts received between 40% and 60%, and some isolated areas received between 60% and 100% of the long-term average rainfall for April.

The highest monthly total of 104.4 mm was again recorded at Weeaproinah in the Otways region of southwest Victoria. The lowest monthly total of 2.8 mm was recorded at Swan Hill in northwest Victoria. Sixteen rainfall recording sites across the state experienced their lowest April rainfall for at least 10 years, and another 3 sites experienced their lowest April rainfall on record.

Temperatures were below average across the state during April. Overnight temperatures were approximately 1°C below normal, with daytime temperatures approximately 0.5°C below normal. Twenty nine temperature recording sites experienced their coldest April daily maximum temperature on record.
