Streamflows - September 2011

Streamflows in the west and south-west of the State continued to diminish with below average rainfall and above average daily maximum temperatures experienced during September. However, widespread rainfall at the end of the month produced above average streamflows in the north-east.

Above average flows occurred at five of 28 representative gauging stations at the end of September, located mainly in the Alpine region. A further four stations in the north and east of the State recorded flows between 80 and 100% of the long-term September average. Flows at twelve stations across the western half of Victoria were less than 19% of the average.  The remaining seven stations recorded flows between 20 and 79% of the long-term September average.

End of the month flows at all stations were higher than the historical minimum for September and the average flows recorded for September of the 2006/07 drought.
