Restrictions on Diversions - March 2011

On this page

Rosters and restrictions on diversions from unregulated streams.

At the end of March, only six unregulated streams and lakes across the state were subject to restrictions.  As a result of the consistent rainfall during 2010/11 to date, this is the lowest number of unregulated waterways on restriction for more than five years. It is significantly lower than the same time last year when over 150 streams and lakes were subject to rosters or bans, and is unusual for this time of year, which is often when most streams are subject to bans due to the dry and hot conditions over summer.

  • In northern Victoria, Goulburn-Murray Water removed irrigation bans for five waterways in the Loddon and Campaspe basins.  These waterways had been subject to bans for between three and nine years.  There are now no streams on restriction in Goulburn-Murray Water’s region for the first time in more than a decade.
  • There were five restrictions or bans in place in Melbourne Water’s jurisdictions at the end of March.
  • There were no bans in GWMWater’s region at the end of March.
  • Southern Rural Water had an irrigation ban in place for one stream in the Western Region at the end of March.
