Storage Levels - November 2010

Inflows to storages improved significantly in a number of regions as a result of the wet weather.  A high rainfall event in the Loddon and Campaspe regions at the end of the month caused several storages in the region, including Cairn Curran and Lake Eppalock, to overflow.  Only a year ago both storages were at less than 8% of capacity.  This is the first time Lake Eppalock has spilled since 1996.

In the Maribyrnong and Werribee catchments, storages also rose significantly compared to recent years.  Storage levels in Rosslyne Reservoir rose by 23.9% over the month, finishing at 40.1%.  This time last year Rosslyne was only 4.9% full.  By the end of November, the combined volume of storages in the Werribee basin was 86.3%, increasing by 31.0% over the month and 76.4% higher than the same time last year.

By the end of November, Victoria’s major storages were at 73.0% of total capacity.

The volume of water in regional storages around Victoria increased significantly over the month. Overall, regional water storages increased by 3.4% to 76.7% of capacity at the end of November.

Melbourne’s storage levels improved slightly over the month, finishing November at 51.3% capacity, which is 1.8% higher than the end of October.
