Storage Levels - August 2008

At the end of August, the total volume in the state’s major storages1 was 20.2% of capacity. This is an increase of 3.2% over the month.

Melbourne's storages increased by 3.1% during the month to finish at 33.7% of capacity. Melbourne’s storages are 4.9% lower than at the same time last year.

Regional water storages increased by 3.2% to finish the month at 18.5% of capacity.

The slight recovery in storage volumes is due to decreased winter demand and modest storage inflows throughout August.  Despite close to average rainfall during August, inflows to storages remained below average.

In southern Victoria, the South Gippsland System storages increased by 32.5%, and Lake Glenmaggie increased by 19.7% over the month.

Storage volumes remain very low in central and northern Victoria.
