Urban Water Restrictions - September 2010
On 1 September, Stage 3 restrictions for Melbourne and Wallan were reduced to Stage 2, and Barwon Water reduced Stage 3 restrictions for Geelong and district to Stage 2. Coliban Water reduced Stage 4 restrictions for towns in its Loddon system (including Bridgewater, Inglewood, Serpentine and Jarklin) to Stage 3.
North East Water introduced emergency Stage 4 restrictions for Walwa and Bundalong on 6 and 7 September due to supply problems caused by widespread flooding in northeast Victoria. Restrictions were removed for Walwa the following week, and Bundalong remained on Stage 4 until 22 September. North East Water removed restrictions for Bundalong and Springhurst on 22 September, permanent water saving rules now apply.
At the end of September, 238 Victorian towns were subject to water restrictions and approximately 280 towns were not on restrictions but were subject to permanent water saving rules. This is fewer than September 2009 when 328 towns were on restrictions. Significantly less towns are on severe restrictions, with only 11 towns on Stage 4Ex or Stage 4 compared to 147 at this time last year.
