Storage Levels - August 2010
Above average rainfall falling on already-wet catchments across the State resulted in an 11.5% increase in the total volume in the State’s major storages over the month. By the end of August, Victoria’s major storages were at 51.1% of total capacity.*
The volume of water in most regional storages around Victoria increased significantly over the month. Overall, regional water storages increased 12.5% to 52.7% of capacity at the end of August.* This is much higher than the same time last year, when regional storages were at 25.2% of total capacity.
Melbourne’s storage levels continued to improve over the month, and by the end of August, storages were 5.8% higher than levels at the end of July, finishing the month at 41.3% capacity.
*NB: From April 2010, the volume of Victoria’s share of water held in the Menindee Lakes has been included in the regional and total storage figures.
