Streamflows - July 2010

July rainfall continued to support improved surface runoff to streams.  Of the 28 representative stations, there were no stations that recorded flow above the long-term July average.  However, the highest flow at the end of the month was in the Werribee River at Ballan, at 86% of the long-term July average.

At the end of the month, nine stations recorded flow below 10% of the long-term July average, and two of those stations recorded no flow.  These stations were mainly located in the north-west of the state.  Flow at the remaining 18 stations ranged between 10 and 55% of the long-term July average.

Compared to the average flow during the 1982/83 drought, 19 stations recorded higher end-of-month flow.  Flows at 26 stations recorded were higher than the historical minimum (the remaining two recorded no flow).

If rainfall in August is close to or above average, catchments will remain wet, resulting in improved runoff during spring.

The following are graphs for the 28 streamflow gauging stations, showing long-term average daily streamflow, recorded minimum streamflow, streamflow in the 1982/83 drought and current daily streamflow.
