Storage Levels - June 2010
There was a 2.9% increase in the total volume in the state’s major storages for the month. By the end of June, Victoria’s major storages were at 34.5% of total capacity.*
The volume of water in most regional storages around Victoria increased over the month. Overall regional water storages increased 3.2% to 34.6% of capacity at the end of June.*
Melbourne’s storage levels improved slightly over the month, and by the end of June, storages were 1.1% higher than levels at the end of May, finishing the month at 33.8% capacity. This was a result of good rainfall falling on already-wet catchments towards the end of the month, resulting in streamflows into Melbourne’s harvesting dams that were above average for that time of year.
In addition, 24 June 2010 marked 12 months since Melbourne’s storages had reached a record low level of 25.6% and since Tarago Reservoir was reconnected to Melbourne’s supply. Melbourne’s storages are currently 7.8% above what they were this time last year.
*NB: From April 2010, the volume of Victoria’s share of the capacity of the Menindee Lakes has been included in the regional and total storage figures.
