Storage Levels - March 2010
The rate of decline in storage levels has slowed over the summer months, due to average and above-average rainfall in many areas of the state. There was only a small decrease (-0.2%) in the total volume in the state’s major storages for the month. By the end of the month, Victoria’s major storages were at 27.9% of total capacity.*
Melbourne’s storage levels receded slowly over the month, and by the end of March storages were 0.9% below the levels at the end of February, finishing the month at 34.0% of capacity. This is 4.9% higher than the same time last year.
Overall, regional water storages decreased by 0.1% to 26.8% of capacity at the end of March.*
*NB: From March 2010, Victoria’s available resources in the Murray storages are now recorded as a percentage of Victoria’s share of the storage capacity. This change is also reflected in the percentage figures for Victoria’s total regional storage levels and total volume in major storages.
