Storage Levels - December 2009

A combination of average rainfall limiting the demand for water and well below average streamflows resulted in a moderate decrease in the total volume in the state’s major storages of 2.0% to 26.1% of total capacity.

Melbourne’s storage levels continued to fluctuate over the month. However, by the end of December storages were 0.5% below the levels at the end of November, finishing the month at 37.5% of capacity. This is 2.6% higher than the same time last year.

Overall, regional water storages decreased by 2.2% to 24.5% of capacity at the end of December. The Werribee, Ballarat and Bendigo systems were the only supply systems to record minor improvements (0.5% or less) at the end of the month compared to the end of November.
