Streamflows - October 2009

Lower rainfall totals coupled with warmer conditions in October have resulted in lower flows in most Victorian catchments in comparison to recent months.

At the end of October, only three of the 28 representative stations recorded flows above 60% of the long-term October average, while 13 stations recorded flows less than 10% of the long-term October average, including two with no flows.

At the end of the month, the highest flow of 4,196 ML per day was recorded on the Macalister River at Glencairn.

Of the 28 representative stations, 27 have flows lower than October during the 1982/83 drought. However, if compared to the lowest flows ever recorded for October, only two stations recorded flows at the end of the month that were equal to or lower than the record.
