Rainfall - April 2009

Normal weather conditions experienced in March continued into April. Late in the month, a major low-pressure trough brought widespread rainfall across Victoria and snow to the Alpine region. Ten locations across Victoria experienced their lowest April temperatures on record. Mount Hotham broke the state’s all time record low temperature, experiencing -8.2º during the night of 28/29 April.

Rainfall totals for the month were close to the long-term averages across most of the state. Parts of northwest and northeast Victoria received above average rainfall for April.

The highest total monthly rainfall of 189.4 mm was recorded at Mount Baw Baw.

Melbourne received 39.2 mm of rainfall in April, close to the long-term average of 57.3 mm.
