Living Melbourne Living Victoria - Ministerial Advisory Council

The Government appointed the Ministerial Advisory Council (MAC) in early 2011 to provide independent advice for consideration by Government on the changes needed to achieve the Government's aims for urban water.

Establishing the MAC was a key component of the Victorian Government's commitment to improving the liveability of Melbourne and Victoria's regional cities.

The independent advice provided by the MAC will support the Government in its commitment to improving liveability through better planning and management of urban water systems. The benefits of these changes include healthier urban waterways, greener open spaces, reduced urban heat island effect, future water security, and less reliance on rural water.

The MAC has provided to the Government:

  • A Roadmap: recommending the key priorities to improve the performance of Melbourne's water system.
  • An Implementation Plan: the final recommendations for changes needed to create a more liveable Melbourne and Victoria through improved water planning and management for consideration by Government.
