Project Update - April 2010

Delivery of the Draft Gippsland Region Sustainable Water Strategy extended to mid 2010

Many Gippsland organisations, communities and individuals have taken the opportunity to have their say on the future priorities for water in Gippsland. Over 70 written submissions were made in response to the Discussion Paper.

As a result of the breadth and detail of the feedback, and in recognition of the importance of the Draft Strategy as a precursor to the final strategy, the Consultative Committee recommended that the release date be extended beyond 2009 to allow for more time to develop the Draft Strategy.

The Victorian Minister for Water, Tim Holding MP, has endorsed the recommendation of the Gippsland Region Sustainable Water Strategy Consultative Committee and extended the timeline for the development of the Draft Strategy, which is now expected to be released in the first half of 2010.

Independent Panel Report on Public Submissions to the Discussion Paper released

The establishment of an Independent Panel for the Gippsland Region SWS is a legal requirement under the Water Act (1989). The Independent Panel is providing advice and recommendations to the Government throughout the development of the Strategy.

The Independent Panel has reviewed the process to date and the submissions made to the Discussion Paper. They have presented their findings to the Government.
