Annual Review 2008-2009

DSE has completed the third annual review (covering the period 1 July 2008 - 30 June 2009) of water availability and demand compared to the predicted forecasts. This annual review will help deal with the risk of future low inflow conditions.

The annual review found some slight variations in the water supply and demand trends compared to the forecasts in the Central Region Sustainable Water Strategy. These variations included both decreased supply due to the dry conditions and slightly decreased demand in some areas due to combinations of restrictions and behavioural changes to lower per capita consumption. Where significant, the decreased supply, and risks of future decreased water availability, are being addressed by planned augmentations.

Annual Review 2007-2008

In light of the risk of continuing low inflow conditions and to ensure that we continue to be in the best position possible to respond to lower water availability, DSE has completed its second annual review (covering the period 1 July 2007 - 30 June 2008) of water availability and demand compared to the predicted forecasts.

The annual review includes an evaluation of progress in meeting targets. River flows and progress in meeting environmental targets has also been monitored. The review shows that the supply and demand trends in the 2007-08 year continue to support the Government’s decision to bring forward the major augmentations in the Water Plan.
