How to Apply

Potential applicants are encouraged to register their interest for a grant through an 'Expression of Interest' (EOI). Following receipt of the EOI, applicants will be contacted to arrange an interview to mentor them through the application process.

Organisations wishing to apply for a grant are strongly recommended to submit the above Expression of Interest form in one of the following ways:

On receipt of the Expression of Interest form, staff at the Project Office will contact you to arrange an interview to discuss the project and explain the requirements in the Full Application form.

How will an Expression of Interest (EOI) be assessed?

Each EOI will also be assessed for:

impact and alignment with the outcomes of the program
innovation and potential for the project to act as a demonstration of environmentally sustainable best practice
potential sources of matching funds
whether the organisation is incorporated (if not, potential for an alliance with an incorporated organisation)
potential risks.

Once the EOI process is complete, Full Applications may be lodged at any time, and there will be four times throughout the year when these will be gathered up and processed.

There are three levels of funding available: small grants of up to $50,000; medium sized grants between $50,000 and $250,000; and large grants of over $250,000. The Project Office will assist applicants to determine which grant best meets their needs.

Applications must be submitted prior to cut-off dates that are set at close of business on the first Monday of February, May, August, and November. Applications not meeting a cut-off date will be held over until the next cut-off date.
Applications will be considered within a competitive process by an independent selection panel.
Successful applicants will be required to sign a Funding Agreement (PDF~886kB).
Quarterly progress reports will be required for the duration of a project, along with a final report and evaluation, prior to sign-off of the project. A quarterly progress report template can be downloaded below.

When proceeding to a full application, applicants will be expected to address any initial issues raised by the DSE officers at the Expression of Interest discussion. Applicants will be advised in writing on the outcome of their application after a final decision by DSE management for each round of applications.
