Monitoring

Like all businesses that involve construction and manufacturing operations, the Victorian Desalination Project is subject to environmental monitoring.

During design and construction a range of environmental monitoring activities are carried out at work sites and as part of on and offsite audits.

Just a few examples of monitoring activities include water and air quality testing, noise and vibration surveys and animal and plant surveys for marine and land work sites.

Audits are conducted at work sites to check that environmental management systems are being implemented. Document and system reviews are also undertaken.

The range of audits and reviews are carried out by the design and construction company, the Independent Reviewer and Environmental Auditor and the Environment Protection Authority,

This monitoring regime continues once construction is finished and operation begins.

The Works Approval granted by Victorian Environment Protection Authority sets out a number of conditions for the construction and operation of the project.

When commissioned, an Environment Protection Agency licence will set requirements for the operation of the plant. Monitoring is a part of requirements under the Works Approval.
