Work on revegetated land within the Victorian Desalination Project plant site began this month. The 225-hectare coastal park is one of the largest ecological restoration projects undertaken in Victorian history and plays an important role in blending the plant into the landscape and restoring the ecological values of the site.

Teams of ecologists have collected all of the seeds for the selected species from the local area and landscaping crews have begun planting the indigenous plants.

Work on the reverse osmosis building is also progressing with 97 per cent of the concrete poured and 97 per cent of the structural steel and 76 per cent of the precast panels erected. This, along with the 90 per cent roof panels installed means the majority of the work remaining to be done on the building is either inside, on the green roof itself, or within the associated building facilities.

In late April 2011 about 900 people visited the plant site as part of a day of Community Site Tours. This was an opportunity for local people to see the site for themselves and talk to project staff.
